Yesterday, January 22, 2024, the Canada Immigration Minister announced Cap on international student permits and many other things related to international student visa applications for next two year.
Point: 1: Cap on Intake
In an effort to curb further expansion, the Canadian government today said that it will impose a two-year cap on the number of applications for foreign student visas.
Those studying elementary and secondary education, as well as those seeking doctorate and master's degrees, are excluded from the cap.
Point: 2, Attestation Letter
To enforce the cap, each study permit application submitted to the IRCC starting on January 22, 2024, will also require an attestation letter from a province or territory.
Provinces and territories must establish a process for supplying attestation letters to students by no later than March 31, 2024.
Point: 3, Cap On PGWP
Beginning September 1, 2024, international students who begin a study program that is part of a curriculum licensing arrangement will no longer be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) upon graduation.
Graduates of master's and other short graduate-level programs will soon be eligible to apply for a 3-year work permit.
Point: 4, Spouse Open Work permit
It will no longer be acceptable for the spouses of international students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at other educational levels.
Only international students' spouses participating in master's and doctorate programs will be qualified for open work visas.
