Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Students applying to universities and colleges in Canada can now expect faster visa processing through the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program launched by the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada, if you are from the following countries:
China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, The Philippines, Senegal and Vietnam.

SDS allows students from India to avail their visa in 4-6 weeks. When a student who meets the eligibility criteria applies via SDS, most applications are processed within 20 calendar day.

The requirement to eligible under SDS category

  • Letter of Admission from a post-secondary designated learning institution
  • have proof you have paid your tuition for your first year of study
  • Mandatory Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAN$10,000
  • have a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (If your admission letter is from QUEBEC)
  • pre - medical exam (if you need one)
  • PCC (if you need one)
  • English proficiency test (A score not less than 6 in any module)

What Is a Guaranteed Investment Certificate?

A guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) is a deposit investment sold by Canadian banks and trust companies. they provide a low risk fixed rate of return and are insured, to a degree, by the Canadian government.

  • Once the GIC has been purchased, the bank provides the GIC certificate which is having details for the Investment Balance Confirmation to the applicant.
  • The bank holds the funds in an investment or a student account. Fund is accessible once the student arrives in Canada.
  • Student receives an initial disbursement, and the remaining funds are disbursed in monthly or bimonthly installments over a period of 10 to 12 month to use for the monthly settlement expense.

Introduction of Medical Exam
